The Fellowship of the Bloggers (An observation)

DISCLAIMER: This post is just an observation of the writer. You have the right to react or give out your own point of view or idea, but be constructive enough and respect the idea of the writer. After all, this is my blog. Respect is highly recommended.

A well-known blogger texted me and invited me for a meet up (eyeball) with other bloggers one night. Since I do not have the right to name names and since I respect each others privacy and their plea not to  post any pictures from that meet up (at least for 2 months?), let’s just named and hide the blogger who texted me as Ms. Well-Known Blogger. Anyways, I was invited and so I said yes.

I never imagined that on that particular day, I will create a post out of that meet up. This is the second time to be with a group of bloggers but this one was unforgettable. Nothing really fancy happened on that evening, but it’s just a night full of realization and awareness of what is commonly happened during meet ups. At least my circle of blogger friends is now growing as I happened to meet 5 new faces on the blogosphere. Though I visited their blogs maybe once or many times but seeing them face to face is such an honor. Thanks guys (you know who you are!)

Since I’m not an active participants in meet ups and eyeball with other bloggers or any events, I only knew few bloggers, those whom I get in touch with and had a constant communication through facebook, twitter, through text or those who constantly visit my blog and religiously leave some comments. I am a shy type specially meeting up with people I do not know (yet). But the shyness and timidity will only last for a few hours and will eventually expire when I’m at ease and comfortable with the people I meet.

Getting to know YOU, getting to know all about YOU

Due to my shyness and silent type characteristic (laugh out loud!), I got the chance to observed and determined common questions they normally ask about you. It’s actually a getting to know each other or probably to break the ice and shyness in you. It’s also the chance for you to be open to them and make you feel that you belong to the group. I listed the some of the common questions they normally ask. You might add some on the list.

·         What’s your name?
·         What’s the URL of your blog?
·         What’s the name of your blog?
·         Where do you live?
·         What’s your line of work?
·         How old are you?

From those questions, it’ll start the conversation and will lead to a more meaningful discussion with them. When the ball starts rolling, you start to laugh with them, crack some jokes with them and you feel the camaraderie. Most bloggers normally have sense of humor, though I meet a lot of bloggers who are just like me, silent at first but deadly in the end (laugh out loud again!).

Topics commonly offered on the table

Normally, when bloggers situate in a table where food and drinks is overflowing, the conversation goes on and on. The topics actually vary from personal to professional level, but common topics are:

·         Which one is better Wordpress or Blogspot?
·         Future events and activities (those that will promote blogging)
·         A unforgettable post from a blogger
·         Sharing of events that you participated
·         Unforgettable experience in a conference/event/activities (for bloggers)
·         Personal life (love life to be exact) of a Blogger.

I realized that meeting up with other bloggers; you will learn so many things from them. You’ll get the chance to know them personally and the type of life they have as a regular employee, as blogger, as a person, and as a citizen to the community.

Blogging has been my avenue to express what I feel inside; whether it’s an experience I got from my past or a new discovery. To others, blogging could be their way of releasing stress and expressing their opinion and as a person. To some, blogging is a way of life, a way of living by earning through blogging. But whatever purpose that we have, what’s important is giving time to know the people behind that blog. It’s a plus if you appreciate not only the blog but the person behind it.

Kudos to all bloggers!

Beat the Heat: Preventing Summer Heat Illness

Summer is really here. You can feel the heat even if its 7 o'clock in the morning. Summer heat waves can be very dangerous. When you are exposed to too much heat your body temperature increases and this can damage the brain and other vital organs. Some health conditions can make it harder for the body to stay cool in hot weather. These include obesity, old age, dehydration, heart disease, fever, drug and alcohol use, etc.

In engaging into summer activities, our health should be our main priority. We should always protect our health when temperatures are very high specially this summer:

  • Drink plenty of water. When it’s hot, drinking plenty of water will help remove toxins from your body through sweating. Drinking water will also keep your body hydrated. You can also drink juice and sport drinks but avoid drinking caffeine (tea, coffee and cola) and alcohol.
  • Stay in a cool air conditioned area. The best way to beat the heat is to stay in areas or places that are breezy and fresh. If you don’t have an air conditioner, you can go to a shopping mall or public building for a few hours. Also, the best way to stay cool is to take a cool shower or bath.
  • Always use sunscreen. If you are in a direct sun, use a sunscreen with sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or higher. You should follow the packaging directions to avoid a more serious illness. Reapply every 2 hours while in the sun.
  • Wear light garments. When at home, wear as little clothing as possible. Choose lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting garments. When you’re in a direct sunlight, a brimmed hat/cap or an umbrella will keep you head cool.
If you experience heat stroke, heat cramps heat exhaustion or major sunburn; it’s better to go to the nearest clinic or doctor to get immediate medication. It’s better to be always ready from any summer illness. In this way we will fully enjoy your summer.

Prevention is better than cure.

Prepare for Battle

You want war, I'll give you war! - Victoria Valera (Gretchen Barreto, in Magkaribal 2010)

After contemplating and thinking about life and things, I finally decided to go into war. I'll make sure I will put up a good fight. Things will never be the same again, so I need to be physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually ready.

Few months back, I was jobless. I lose hope. I didn't put a good fight. I let the enemy win over me. I'm not ready for that battle. No armor. Defenseless. Weak and alone. But being in that state helps me figure out that life is like a battlefield. You need to be ready in anything and in everything. You don't know what will happen in the future. You don't know who our enemies are so we better be ready for the fight.

Next monthh, a new chapter will start. A new beginning and a new adventure. A new road to travel. A new journey. Its like entering a new battleground. A new arena where I don't know what will my fate be. A place where I'll start from scratch, meet new enemies and maybe meet new allies. Encounter hardships and trials. Am I ready for that challenge? Yes! I am! I am prepared. I'm ready. I carry all my experiences and the things that happened in the past as my tool and my prayer as my greatest armor.

Some of us are afraid of challenges. Most of us are scared of what is in store for us outside the box or outside the four corners of what you can our vision can see. Whether we are scared to find a new opportunity because we feel that what we have now is our comfort zone. We are too scared to fight for what we believe is right. We are too weak to go beyond even if we know in our hearts that we can do more and we can give more. Maybe we're scared because were not ready to fight. Or maybe, we're not in full armor to go and give our best and be ready for combat.

When entering in the battlefield of life, one should always be ready to be sure you'll get the victory you are aiming for. You might want to consider these:

  • Bring your best guns (weapons). This means to bring the best attitude. Think positively and do not allow fear to eat your soul. Bring your skills and what you have learned from the past.
  • Wear the best armor. The ones that are hard to  destroy. Wear and always keep the shield of faith. Wear the buckle of truth.
  • Eat the right kind of food before entering the battlefield. Be physically healthy. This will give you enough energy and strength to succeed.
  • Stay focus. Do what you need to do. If your in a new job, focus on the things that was given to you and then if you still have time do some research to improve your skills.

Filipino Traditional Games That I Used to Play

games
Being an adult gives me less opportunity to play Pinoy games that I enjoyed the most when I was a kid, though nobody stops me from playing it again. However, due to the demands and responsibilities of the job that I am facing, I haven't got much time in doing so. I remember we played games for so many reasons; as pastime, specially in rural areas and during moonlit nights, we usually gathered in plazas, open areas, or main roads, trying different set of games and interacting with other kids in the neighborhood as part of our recreation, socialization and relaxation after a hard day's work.

I personally believe that playing games is part of growing up. Some games are challenging. Some are daring. Some are physical, some are intellectually stimulating. Playing games teach us the value of Sportsmanship. I remember that when we play games, we don't have any referees or even coaches to teach us how to play it right. As kids, we made the rules and we abide the rules, that's what we called "honor system".

Below are some of the games that I usually played when I was a kid.

(Other games are: Patintero, Holen, Taguan, Tumbang Preso, Palo Sebo, Sungka, Siato (Siatong), Piko and some others.)

In this modern word, I observed that most kids doesn't played these games anymore. Probably they even do not know what and how to play this games. Unfortunately, most of  them are more aware and caught up with the modern toys that technology could ever offer. You have online games, PSP, PS2, nintendo and some others. Though, this might increase their mental abilities in terms of solving or maybe being active metally but pjhysically- NO!

Its commonly known that games, like the one I mentioned above, plays an important role in the learning process of the child. This educational influence of the games on the physical, mental, and moral vitality of a child is a factor why its still good to have these games be introduced to kids on this generation.

I wish that my future kids will experience the games that I played before. I could not imagine seeing them not enjoying the life that I have when I was a kid.

So.. let the games begin!

The Death of the 12 Apostles

A Lenten Season Special Post

Have you ever wonder how is it to live at the time of Jesus Christ? Did you ask yourself, What if I became one of the disciples of Jesus during the time while he still walks on earth in flesh? I wonder how the disciples handled the persecution, the harassment or the discrimination from people who hate Jesus at that time.  I believe it needs a bigger faith to do what the disciples did and needs a great love to die for someone whom you believe all your life.

The 12 disciples suffered a lot of things after the death of Jesus. Though not all of them suffered and died with their faith remained intact, believing that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.

Here’s how the 12 Disciples died and suffered after the Death of Jesus Christ. Though, the Bible only mentioned the deaths of two apostles, James who was put to death by Herod Agrippa I in 44 AD and Judas Iscariot who committed suicide shortly after the death of Christ.    The details of the deaths of three of the apostles (John, the Beloved, Bartholomew and Simon the Canaanite) are not known at all, either by tradition or early historians. The deaths of the other seven apostles are known by tradition or the writings of early Christian historians.  According to traditions and the Bible, eight of the Apostles died as Martyrs.  At least two of the Apostles, Peter and Andrew were crucified.

Can Ex-Lovers be Friends?: An Answer to Lily's Post

pic from here
This is an answer to Lily's Corner blog post: Can Ex-Lovers be Friends?

I was just browsing and do my blog routine - blog hoping/walking, when I run into Lily's blog (swerte mo Lily may blog promotion ka pa!..Peace!). I was pondering if this really happens in real life. Well, my answer is YES!

Honestly, its hard to be friends with your ex-lover specially if the break up cause a great impact or damage in the totality of your personality. Its a case to case basis. A lot of things needs to be considered and I think only those strong people who can be friends with ex-lovers.

It happened to me not only once but many times. The process of becoming friends again does not happen overnight. It takes time to heal the wounds and forget the past. Try to consider these things:
  • Make sure that you completely moved on with your failed relationship. This will set you free in case you will see him/her with someone else.
  • Make sure that you are ready to be friends with him/her because you really want to and not because you want to win him/her back.
  • Building friendship with your ex-lover comes a great responsibility (parang spiderman lang!).
  • Do not make friends with your ex-lover the day after your break up. As I've said it doesn't happen overnight. Sometimes it takes years for you to accept the fact that your just friends, NOTHING MORE NOTHING LESS.
  • Be strong enough to accept things. Always remember that all beautiful music comes to an end. Accept things and move on. There are reasons for everything.
Anyways, there is nothing impossible if we can be friends with our ex-lovers. Its good to make friends with everybody specially those people who became part of our lives. This will make the world a better place and easier to live.

Conversation with God

However, most of the time, we ask the wrong questions even if the answers are already laid infront of you. We cannot find the answers as we are blinded by questions, blinded by our troubles and our fragile emotion.

When I woke up this morning, my mind is full of questions. I know that its not right to question God about what is happening with our lives or with the world. But I did.

I ask God: “Where are you when I'm in my deepest trouble? Why have you forsaken me and left me alone with this trouble?"

Sometimes, we felt that God seems to be quiet when we pray. He seems to be absent and never listen. As humans, we always think that when we call Him, he never answers. Most of the time, we think that when we ask for help, He never rescues.

But that is just the devils snare, for us to believe that God is not there and that He never really helps.

God answered and smiled back at me and said...

"I never left you... I just watch you fighting, using my Words that restored in your heart and mind as your weapon... I'll always be with you, just BE WITH ME ALWAYS.

At that very moment, I realized that I was wrong. It’s me who left. It’s me who keep myself away from Him. God is always there, I knew it.

We are like the prodigal son who left in his father’s arms, but in the end realizes that life without our Father is nothing, that apart from our creator we are nothing.
May you have a life filled with God's love and grace.

God bless you my dear friends.
